Glasses, provided by/at the venue, which show floating subtitles/closed captions during the performance. I’m really not sure how that would work with live shows (it uses live transcription but that’s far from perfect), but for cinema it would mean those who need captions weren’t shovelled into the deadzone slots. I wondered how they work if you already need glasses to see. They can be shown on a phone/tablet, or you can sit on the very front row and leave your glasses off!

Compare that with what I am currently doing, which is listening to Pearl Jam in both my hearing aids, in perfect sync. I have an Auracast dongle (~£40 from Amazon) plugged into the USB port of my laptop (circled in yellow below). It creates an Auracast broadcast of the audio from my laptop. My Vivia 9 hearing aids are Auracast enabled, and the Resound app on my phone completes the system.

some 20+ years ago, they were told it was “nerve damage, nothing can be done”. "Nothing can be done" is not correct, as the hearing loss can be helped with amplification. What ENT surgeons usually mean is "it's not reversible" (true, if too much time has passed). The term “nerve damage” was often used for sensorineural hearing loss - which is where the damage is located in the cochlea (inner ear) and/or the nerves beyond the cochlea.
